ASPCA

The ASPCA, or American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is a liberal animal rights organization similar in scope to PETA or the ACLU. It is not often heard from these days, but its effects are often seen at the end of a movie when it says, "No animals were harmed in the creation of this movie."
In recent years, the ASPCA has dropped the first "A" (for "American") from its name, ostensibly to show that it is a worldwide organization, although it may be that they simply didn't want the word "American" in their name.
