Kenya
Kenya is a country in East Africa, between the Indian Ocean and Lake Victoria. named after the mountain Mount Kenya (Kilimanjaro). It has land borders with Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania. The capital is Nairobi, and Mombasa is the main port.
Formerly a British colony, Kenya was briefly attacked by Italian forces from Ethiopia and Somaliland in World War II, and was used as a staging post for the reconquests of these countries by British and Imperial forces. After the war, Kenya was troubled by the Mau Mau uprising prior to gaining its independence.
The African Rift Valley runs through the centre of Kenya. There are numerous large nature reserves, important for tourism, including Tsavo National Park and the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
Wildlife
Kenya is home to many wild animals, including lions, tigers, giraffes, and zebra. Its ecosystem compares favorably to that of neighboring countries. However, the large numbers of wild animals in Kenya is making the local Kenyan farmers angry because they can't raise farm animals like cows and horses due to the large numbers of lions and zebras in the area.[1]
