Pepper turns up in the FBI's Silvermaster file. He had, if memories serve me correct, meetings in his office with alleged "progressives" circa 1948 who were members of the CPUSA. I could find the stuff if it would be helpful. Thanks. RobSFree Kyle! 20:49, 25 February 2021 (EST)

It should be noted, Joe McCarthy made his Wheeling, West Virginia speech in February 1950, the North Koreans crossed the 38 parallel in June 1950, and Pepper was unseated in November 1950. Also, the Soviets exploded their atomic bomb in 1949 and Mao declared the PRC the same year. In 1948 was the Berlin Airlift. So Pepper is inextricably linked to McCarthy's hunt for communists in government, given that his staff were sending detailed reports and designs from the War Production Board during WWII.

IOWs, Pepper was still in the Senate when McCarthy made his Wheeling WV speech, despite the claims by many authors that the communists in government had already been driven out. RobSFree Kyle! 00:23, 26 February 2021 (EST)
