Eric Leroy Adams was elected mayor of New York City as a Democrat in 2021. The last Republican elected mayor of New York in response to a Democrat mega-crime wave was in 1993.
Adams is a retired police captain and Brooklyn borough president. Adams famously called white NYPD officers "crackers" in 2019.[2] In the 2021 New York City Democrat mayoral primary, Adams allegeldy dismissed calls to defund the police.[3]
