Food Chain

A food chain is a diagram of the transfer of food energy from plants to one or more animals. It is a series of plants and animals linked by their food relationships.[1] Toxins, such as methyl mercury and lead, that are not able to be removed in waste become more concentrated as it passes up a food chain. Between each link in the food chain, about 10% of the energy and biomass is integrated into the next consumer. The other energy is dissipated as heat and undigestible biomass, such as fiber, is passed through the digestive system.
