Spellbound (1945) is an Alfred Hitchcock thriller in which a woman psychiatrist (played by Ingrid Bergman) helps a falsely accused patient recover his memory.[1]
Drawings in the movie were done by Salvador Dali, the preeminent surrealist painter.
This movie was inspired by the 314-page novel The House of Dr. Edwardes, which was first published in 1927.
This movie was successful in addition to being influential in giving credibility to the field of psychiatry, by grossing 4.7 times its production budget of only $1.5 million.
It received 6 Oscar nominations, yet is among the Worst Liberal Snubs for being passed over for the award in the 5 most prominent categories.[2]
