The search engine manipulation effect (SEME) refers to the ability of digital content providers to offer suggestions in order to manipulate the users of those platforms.[1]

Research into the search suggestion effect (SSE) has revealed that manipulation of suggestion and results has the potential to swing undecided voters by nearly 80%.[2]

Search engine provider Google was highlighted in a leaked video called the "selfish ledger", which demonstrates they are aware of their ability to manipulate[3]
