Carnot

Sadi Carnot (b. June 1, 1796, Paris, France — d. August 24, 1832, also in Paris) was a French physicist who described the Carnot cycle, which concerns the theory of heat engines.
Carnot was the eldest son of Lazare Carnot (b. May 13, 1753, in Nolay, Burgundy, France — d. August 2, 1823, in Magdeburg, Prussian Saxony (now Germany)], who was prominent in the French Revolution and who served on the Committees for General Defense, Public Safety and the Directory in the 1790s.
