Windermere
Windermere is the largest lake in England, being over 11 miles in length although just under a mile wide. It forms a part of the Lake District. Part of the border between Westmorland and Lancashire (North Lonsdale) runs through the south-eastern and western shores.
There are two towns situated on Windermere: Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere. In addition, Windermere lends its name to a small town, although Windermere town does not face the lake directly, lying around half a mile east of its shore.

Windermere has a length from north to south of about 11 miles, with its width from east to west being a maximum of around 1 mile. The lowest point of the lake bed is below sea level; the surface of the lake is 128 ft (39 meters) above sea level, with the maximum depth being around 219 ft (just under 67 meters).
