Wayne Mark Rooney (born 24 October 1985 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England) is an English professional football manager and former player. He made his professional debut with Everton F.C. aged 16 in 2002, having previously played for the youth team since 1995. He became the youngest goal scorer in Premier League history against Arsenal on 19 October 2002, although that record was surpassed by James Milner 2 months later.[1] He made his debut for England in February 2003 as a substitute against Australia (aged 17 years, 111 days), at that time being the youngest England international ever (until Theo Walcott in 2006).[2] He transferred to Manchester United in 2004 and, as of 2025, he is the all-time top goal scorer for the club, surpassing Bobby Charlton (who played for the club between 1956-1973) in 2017.[3][4]

Wayne Rooney is a devout Roman Catholic. He has said little about his political views although did express admiration for liberal US President Obama.[5]
