TASS (Telegrafnoe Agentstvo Sovetskogo Soyuza, 'Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union') was formerly the official news agency of the former Soviet Union. TASS originated as the St. Petersburg Telegraph Agency, which went live on September 1, 1904.
Since 1992 TASS has been named the Information Telegraph Agency of Russia (ITAR) but brands itself ITAR-TASS.
