Inverse thinking, or inversion, is a problem-solving technique that involves solving problems by asking what you want to avoid rather than what you want to achieve. By identifying what causes failure, bad decisions, or inefficiency, you can work backward to create a strategy that avoids those pitfalls. This mental model is often credited to mathematician Carl Jacobi and popularized by Charlie Munger.
