Recording Evil (Hebrew: הקלטות הנאצים) is a three-part Israeli documentary series created by filmmakers Danny Liber and Yaron Niski, produced by Kan 11 and Cineflix Rights.[1][2]

Overview

The documentary details the largest covert spy operation of World War II, during which British intelligence hid microphones in internment facilities to eavesdrop on captured Nazi prisoners of war (POWs). Unaware that they were being monitored, the prisoners spoke candidly and freely about their direct involvement in the Holocaust, providing unfiltered accounts that had never before been made public. The project utilizes over 75,000 pages of declassified British intelligence transcripts, which include explicit recordings of soldiers discussing their parts in the mass murder of European Jews, such as claims of shooting millions of people. Military historian Avner Gershony, an expert specializing in the WWII secret recordings operation, served as a core consultant and participant in the production.

Historical Impact

According to the creators, the testimonies clearly demonstrate that Wehrmacht officers and personnel were fully aware of, witnessed, and were actively involved in the murder of Jews, despite conscious recognition that these actions constituted severe war crimes. The series was produced to serve as an unequivocal response to rising antisemitism, historical distortion, and Holocaust denial over the past decade.
