The religious right is a term used to refer to religious individuals or groups, particularly Christians, who seek to politicize their religion and apply religious moral values to government and the running of society. In the US this often involves opposition to abortion, opposition to gay rights, opposition support for school prayer. The religious right are an influential faction in the modern Republican party, with close links to other social and fiscal conservative viewpoints within the party.

Criticism of this viewpoint roots from arguments by people on the political left who beleive this violates religious freedom and seperation of church and state. People on the Religious Left also argue that the focus of religion should be to further social justice by fighting inequality and poverty, rather than focusing excessively on moral issues.
