Ottoman-Babylon Theory

The Ottoman-Babylon Theory is the theory set forth by some prominent modern Christian theologists that the "Babylon" of the Book of Revelations in the Bible is the former Ottoman Empire. This, they claim, is supported by several facts:

(1) the Ottoman Empire persecuted Christians within its borders

(2) the Ottoman Empire attempted to conquer the Christian world

(3) one of the final battles against the Ottoman Empire was at Megiddo

Detractors of the theory point out that it does not correspond with other events of the Apocalypse of St. John.
