Non-parametric statistics

Non-parametric statistics lack assumptions that data were drawn from a certain probability distribution, and do not require that the population fit any parametrized distributions.
Often non-parametric statistics are used when ordering or ranking is the emphasis in a data set, as in assigning ratings to restaurants.
