Genoa, in Italian Genova, is a port city of Italy, located in the north-west of the country on the Ligurian Sea. It probably was the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. It is one of the four historic Italian sea trade cities, along with Venice, Pisa and Amalfi. The Venetian Marco Polo wrote his famous memories while in a genuese prison.

Genoa is also the name of one of the two city's soccer teams playing in the Italian league. The other one is Sampdoria.

The word jeans comes from the city's name.
