Stream of consciousness

Stream of consciousness is a literary technique made popular by James Joyce and William Faulkner which consists of a written series of thoughts and feelings by a character in a novel, intended to mimic the progression of conscious thought in an individual. One of the objectives of this technique is to bypass preliminary judgments by the reader regarding the narrator, although ironically it has often been used with works that utilize the technique of the unreliable narrator. This developed based on interest in psychoanalysis.
