Lawrence Lader (1919 - 2006) was an American abortion advocate who is considered the father of the modern abortion movement. Born to Jewish parents, he was a supporter of Marxism in his early adulthood. He, along with Betty Friedan, was one of the founders of the pro-abortion group NARAL. Betty Friedan described him as "the founding father of the abortion movement". He had an illegal laboratory in his home to copy the French abortion pill RU-486.
