reverted your changes because
It believes in the word of Lord as in the Bible, and although in a country surrounded by blasphemy, social decay and immorality, (New Zealand) serves to protect its standing as a Christian country.
Note that the subject "it" is in the sentence once and to repeat it is bad grammar.

I'm not exactly sure why but I think years is better here.
