Antanaclasis is the rhetorical device of repeating a given word, but assigning it multiple meanings. As a play on homonyms, it is also a form of pun, and is often used to comic or witty effect.

Examples of Antanaclasis

"We must all hang together, or assuredly we will all hang separately." --Benjamin Franklin

"Put out the light, and then put out the light." (Othello 5.2.7) --William Shakespeare
