Frankenstein

Frankenstein is a novel by Mary Shelley, describing the life and actions of Victor Frankenstein, who succeeds in animating a corpse sown together from various body parts. The creature is at first friendly, but after it is treated harshly it becomes bitter and resolves to kill its master. After Frankenstein dies of pneumonia, the creature commits suicide. The book was made into a film in 1931 (see Frankenstein (1931 film), which changes the plot and characters.
