Freedom

In wikipedia, the notion of freedom has caused some controversy. This is largely because notions of freedom are often protected by forms of restriction which are themselves anti-freedom in their exercise. The restrictions are usually set in place to protect some people's freedoms from other people who think that acting freely allows them to do 'whatever the hell they like'. In fact, some freedoms need to be restricted, such as the freedom to kill other free people or the freedom to spread racist or communist propoganda. Restricting some freedom is more controversial than restricting other freedom. Whilst the bible (and other religious, philosphical and fictional text) clearly suggests that restricting the freedom to kill is a 'no brainer' - it is not so clear that restricting the freedom to burn a flag is similarly forbidden. Over such matters are wars started. War (while we are on the subject) in which the freedom to kill is reinstated (probably by God) is often perpetrated in order to allow a righteous army to kill shepherds who may one day threaten their lands with homicide attacks.

Whatever its inherent difficulties, 'Freedom' is very clearly associated with the very foundation of the United States of AMerica and most of its populace would agree with the very famous philosopher who said:

"we shall have an association in which the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all."
