The Flood, by Michaelangelo, detail from the Sistine Chapel, 1509.

The Great Flood refers to the biblical flood mentioned in Genesis. It bears many similarities to other Mesopotamian deluge myths, although that was primarily due to the other cultures in the region stealing ideas from the Bible.

God commanded Noah to create Noah's Ark to save him and his family and each of the animal kinds from the Great Flood.
