The Agricultural Research Service is a United States Department of Agriculture agency employing federal scientists to conduct basic,applied, and developmental research in the following fields: livestock; plants; soil, water and air quality; energy; food safety and quality; nutrition; food processing, storage, and distribution efficiency; non-food agricultural products; and international development.
