Gout

Gout is a medical condition involving one or more joints. Uric acid in the blood, when at elevated levels, crystallizes in a joint, usually in the big toe, causing a painful swelling and redness of the afflicted joint. Uric acid levels are elevated when injesting too much purine, which is found in red meats, legumes, beer, and vegetables such as asparagus and spinach. Treatment is avoidance or minimal intake of foods high in purine, and anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen.
