William Shakespeare (1564-1618), perhaps the greatest person of all time, is famous for his plays and sonnets, including Hamlet, Macbeth ("the Scottish play"), Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and many others.
He is sometimes referred to as "the Swan of Avon", especially after Mrs. Shakespeare has had a few too many drinks.
