David Cameron

David Cameron is a British politician, born in Oxfordshire in 1966, and was elected MP for Witney in 2001 and elected leader of the British Conservative Party in December 2005, succeeding Michael Howard. He has taken the Conservative Party slightly to the left in an attempt to appeal more to young and environmentally conscious voters and capture more of the political middle ground. However some feel that in doing so he has sacrificed the ideals of conservatism which have always been at the heart of the Conservative Party, and surveys show that many voters feel they no longer know what the Conservative Party stands for[1]. Thus far he has differed from his predecessors in his stated willingness to work with the Labour and Liberal parties and in his statement that "My aim is to promote social justice, making sure that everyone has access to good schools, good healthcare and decent housing, take a lead in ending global poverty and do all we can to meet the great environmental threats of our age'.[2]
