Goth (subculture)
Goth in modern usage is a term often given to a style of music, a type of dress, and/or a subculture; all of which were originally derived from bands such as Siouxsie & The Banshees, Bahaus, and the Cure. Goth fashion typically consists of a conspicuous affection for black clothing, black/red hair dye, painted nails and eyeliner on both genders, pale skin or powder makeup, and striking application of cosmetics.
Most of those are young women, many of whom dress bizzarely. Very often they have black hair, black leather clothes with references to 18th century clothing, black boots and make up making them like look demons. Goth women normally make up their face very white, attempting to look like vampires. While for many this is only a style, some do it because they worship vampires/other demons and death. Satanic clothing is also rebellion against Christianity.
Criticism from the Christian point of view
It is often labeled as Satanic or anti-Christian in nature, although a large Christian Goth community exists, and Goths are not necessarily anti-Christian.
A Goth much like any person belonging to a certain subculture is and can be of many different faiths and backgrounds with only small minority(often just Mall-Goth children rebelling from their parents;these children are not actually Goth though but Metal-heads) will claim to be Satanic generally that is only to incite fear due to ostracism from peers.
Goth culture has its roots in music. It comes from gothic-rock, which glam-rock influenced genre of punk-rock, without hope and fun.Often the songs are fairly harsh,introverted and satirical in nature of many ideas though this dates back to its root in art-schools.
