OpenOffice.org

OpenOffice.org is an open-source office software suite, similarly to Microsoft Office, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It was originally named simply "OpenOffice", however, the ".org" was appended as the result of a copyright dispute. It is compatible with all Microsoft Office applications, although this is not necessarily reciprocated.
It contains:
- openoffice.org Writer: A word processor
- openoffice.org Calc: A spreadsheet program
- openoffice.org Impress: Presentation
- openoffice.org Draw: A drawing program, allowing you to edit the presentation of images
- openoffice.org Base: A database program
- openoffice.org Math: An equation editor which allows you to display and edit equations. It does not, however, contain a built-in calculator.
Writer supports many legacy document formats better than Microsoft Word.
