The Tea Party movement is an conservative American grassroots movement.

The grassroots is a political term referring to people across the nation who personally support a particular point of view and are willing to vote, organize or engage in personal activism (such as marches) to support a cause. It is contrasted with hired interest groups, and people who are paid to take a particular position. It reflects the civic duties promoted by republicanism.
