Hate crime
A hate crime is an unlawful act motivated by prejudice against a type of person or lifestyle. Hate crime legislation imposes additional punishment motivated by such prejudice.
Liberals promote hate crime legislation for two reasons: (1) to publicize and sometimes exaggerate the importance of prejudice and (2) to legitimize certain lifestyles by declaring them to be protected by law. Under the second reason, hate crime legislation is a stepping stone for a lifestyle to become protected under anti-discrimination laws.
A ladder of social acceptance and promotion of a lifestyle would look like this:
1st rung: hate crime legislation to protect the lifestyle
2nd rung: anti-discrimination legislation to protect and promote the lifestyle
3rd rung: affirmative action to promote the lifestyle
The new Speaker of the House for the 2007-2008 Congress, Nancy Pelosi, seeks to pass hate crime legislation proposed in the prior session of Congress in H.R.3132.
