Queensland

Queensland is a state in north eastern Australia. It was originally established by the British as a penal colony in 1824. It was constituted as a separate colony in 1859 having previously formed part of New South Wales. Queensland was federated with the other states in Australia in 1901. Early in its history, Queensland became a land transportation gateway to the areas eastern regions. Prior to Federation, both the Tennerson Railroad and the Pewer Railroad were built through Carins.
Major cities include Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.
The major sport is rugby league.
