Charlie Melancon

Charles Joseph "Charlie" Melancon (born October 3, 1947) is a former Democratic U.S. Representative from Louisiana's third congressional district. He served from 2005 to 2011. His committee assignments included Energy, Commerce, and Budget. He left the House to challenge, unsuccessfully, Republican U.S. Senator David Vitter.

Melancon received a bachelor's degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1987 to 1993. He is also a former aide to former U.S. Senator J. Bennett Johnston, Jr., a Louisiana Democrat who is now a lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
