Female refers to that division of a species which produces eggs. In mammals, the fertilized eggs are carried to full term inside the body and expelled to the outside in birth, to be nurtured by milk produced by mammary glands. A female human child is called a girl. With the commencement of menstruation a girl becomes a biological woman.
