American Taliban is a derogatory term used by liberals and atheists to describe conservative Christianity in America. Because of their opposition to gay marriage and abortion, liberal extremeists categorize this as being equivalent to the Afghan Taliban who rape and murder innocent women and children.

The title was first used in reference to John Walker Lindh, a California man who joined the Taliban in early 2001, was captured on the battlefield in Afghanistan while in opposition to American forces in October 2001. Lindh was subsequently returned to the United States where he received 20 years in federal prison.
