The term apologetics comes from the Greek word apologia (from Greek ἀπολογία), which means "speaking in defense".
As far as apologetics, a theological, political or other topic which is evidentially based will often have a substantial body of evidence/argumentation supporting it. A position/topic with no or little evidence often has poor quality apologetics and frequently tends to stagnate as a discipline.
