Border Servant Corps (BSC) began as a ministry of the Peace Lutheran Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico]. Peace Lutheran was established by left-wing schismatics, who in the 1970s broke away from their local congregation affiliated with the conservative Missouri Synod Church Lutheran. In 1988, Peace Lutheran joined the Evangelical Church of Lutherans in America, a progressive umbrella group.

BSC partners with other NGOs to promote the idea that anyone seeking asylum has the right to enter the United States and stay until their case is adjudicated. Besides humanitarian activities on behalf of the migrants themselves, BSC "hosts groups interested in an accompaniment-style immersion, where relationships and first-hand educational experiences about border issues are prioritized."
