Brighton is a famous seaside resort on the south coast of England in the county of Sussex.

The resorts of New Brighton on Merseyside and Brighton Beach, Coney Island, New York are both named after the town.

In recent years the nightclubs of Brighton have become a major centre for English homosexual activities and drug-taking, and the whole tone of the place has been lowered from former glories.

Royal pavilion

Brighton's Royal Pavilion is a former royal residence, used by three monarchs in the town, where they kept mistresses. The Pavilion is renowned for its exotic Indian- and Chinese-influenced design.

Local delicacies

  • Brighton Rock - the book by Grahame Greene and film starring Richard Attenborough, were named after this traditional sweet.
