Carrie Underwood is an award winning country singer, and the winner of 4th season of the American Idol television contest. Her 2005 CD included the popular inspirational single "Jesus, Take the Wheel".

Carrie Marie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA, the youngest of 3 girls in the family. She began singing in church at a very early age. In grade school she acted in school plays and began to enter talent competitions.

Church was a strong influence in Carrie's family, and she continued singing in church during her childhood and young adult life. During her years at Checotah High School in Oklahoma, she sang at school events, and began singing in local festivals, country fairs and car shows. Carrie graduated high school in 2001, and enrolled in Northeastern State University in Oklahoma where she majored in journalism.
