The Christian Democrat Organization of America is an international group of 33 right wing political parties in Central and South America. It was founded on April 23, 1947, in Montevideo, Uruguay, during a meeting attended by major political figures from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. The Christian Democratic Organization is currently headed by PAN president Manuel Espino.
This movement carries out its activities in various territories in 26 different countries, each headed up by a Vice President and representatives of the Presidency. These territories are:
Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, Aruba, Cuba, Curazao-Bonaire-Saba, Dominica, Guyana, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Trinidad-Tobago, and other island states.
This international movement is made up of political parties, groups and associations that share Christian humanist principles and that work in coordination for freedom, democracy, human rights, world peace, development with equity, and respect for the environment.
At an international conference, the Christian Democratic group vowed to fight the spread of leftwing governments on the continent and set out a strategy of promoting free trade and striking alliances to defeat “populists” on a country-by-country basis. [1]
