EMT
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are health care professionals trained to provide medical assessment, basic life support, and transport. They generally work out of ambulances, and may be part of a city or county department, a private company, or a volunteer corps. They can respond to emergencies or transport patients who need medical attention.
An EMT is somewhere between a white collar and a blue collar worker. Although they have medical training and work in the health care industry, the job involves a lot of lifting, driving, physical work, and dealing with bodily substances.
EMTs who undergo more advanced training can paramedics who can perform procedures such as intubation, ventilation, and manual defibrillation, and can administer a much wider range of drugs, including by IV.
Some police officers and firemen are also trained as EMTs although others are trained only to the Certified First Responder level.
