Fitna
In Islamic apocalyptic writings (eschatology), a fitna is a time of tribulation and great civil unrest. The term may have common usage, however, to describe merely a civil war within the Dar al-Islam, with no apocalyptic assumptions.
Also, Fitna may refer to a short polemical film by Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders, designed to inflame anti-Islamic sentiment by juxtaposing key phrases from the Koran with the dramatic real world events - such as the September 11th attacks - which Wilders argues are the inevitable consequences of the phrases. Wilders deliberately ended his film with a picture of the Koran, followed by the sound of pages ripping. The reader is meant to assume that Wilders has torn the Koran in two, an unspeakable act of violence to any devout Muslim, but a disclaimer shortly follows, in which Wilders explains that this did not actually happen, but that a phone book was actually torn.
