France was originally Gaul. It was conquered by the Romans in 56 BC, except for a little village in Normandie where Asterix grew up and successfully defeated the Roman Legions.

France was then united in the year 800 AD by Charlemagne, who also conquered most of Western Euopre. Unfortunately, his death led to a bloody war which saw the country divided into warring factions.

In 1789 there was the French Revolution, where Louis the XVI was decapitated by Mr Guillotine. Then French then wrote the Declaration of Human Rights, and helped the USA become free from the nasty British. LaFayette was a hero for helping both the US in its war of independence, and for helping the French Revolution.

Then came Napoleon, who was not revolutionnary, and became an Emporor. He invaded most of Europe, except Russia because it was too cold, and England because they cheated (again) and sunk the French ships.

Then came WWI, which was fought mostly on French territory. France lost most of its young and able men, and was therefor not in a mood to fight when the Nazis came. They pretended to surrender, only to gather up forces in Londond with the General de Gaulle. He successfully le the invasion of Normandie with the help of Winston Churchill and the US President.

France won WWII, and was therefor invited to yalta, where the Winners (France, UK, US, Russia), divided the world amongst themselves.

That was nice, and Frane got some colonies, which it later gave up because of the self-determination principle.

All was well until March 2003, when it refused to join the Liberation of RIaq, and the Overthrow of Saddam, in what can only be considered a shameful and cowardly act. How could it refuse to join the illegal invasion, when the US had done so much for it in the past? Some would say France was ungrateful, petty, self-intrested, and selfish, and that they will pay a price for it in the end.

French politics is corrupted. They have had the same President for a long time (Jacques Chirac), but he will die soon. They are very socialist, adn will soon be bankrupt, probably.
