A Fritter is any edible object which has been coated in batter and deep fried.

The ultimate fritter - the deep fried Mars Bar!
A delicacy; but not one for the faint hearted, or those on calorie-controlled diets.

In the UK, fritters may be purchased form a Chip shop along with Battered fish, Chips and Mushy peas. Alternative names for fritters in different parts of the UK are:

  • Scallops (Merseyside Region)
  • Scones (North East of England)
  • Batch Cakes (Northern Lancashire)

Other notable types of fritter are:

  • Spam Fritters - proprietary brand of spiced ham
  • Banana Fritters - Normally the whole banana is coated in batter and deep fried
  • Pineapple Fritters - cored pineapple, cut into rings
  • Apple Fritters - cored apple, cut into rings.
  • Onion rings - sliced onion separated into individual rings.

In Glasgow, it is possible to obtain almost any food, deep fried in this manner. Specialities include the deep fried Mars Bar and deep fried Pizza.
