Gary Eugene "Gene" Taylor (born September 17, 1953 in New Orleans, Louisiana) currently serves as the Democratic U.S. Representative from Mississippi's 4th congressional district, having been first elected in a 1989 special election. He is a senior member of the Armed Services Committee and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Taylor has a reputation as one of the most conservative Democrats in the House with a populist image, and has been critical of both political parties. He is culturally conservative, consistently voting against abortion rights and gun control. Taylor loudly opposes outsourcing, voted against the 1991 Persian Gulf War, however voted for the 2002 invasion of Iraq.
