Hyperborea, literally "Land Beyond the North Wind" in Greek, was a fabled lost continent situated at the North Pole. According to the Theosophical Society Hyperborea was the place where human souls first evolved, before they acquired physical bodies in Lemuria. Hyperborea is also sometimes said to contain the northern polar entrance to Agartha, the Inner Earth, wherein dwell the Vril-ya, a race of beings far superior to mortal men.
