Kim Jong Il has been the dictator of North Korea since coming to power in 1994. He is also the leader of the Communist Party of North Korea. He has been criticized for the human rights abuses in North Korea. Over one million people in North Korea starved to death as a result of a state imposed famine.

He came into power in 1994, after his father Kim Il Sung died, and has remained the North Korean leader ever since. He is an intense persecutor of Christians and other organized religions.
