Nullification

Nullification refers to the right of the states to ignore any federal law that is unconstitutional. Thomas Jefferson's Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions inspired South Carolina Congressman John C. Calhoun during the Nullification Crisis of 1832. The legal status of nullification has never been fully resolved, but legal cases based on the Tenth Amendment appear promising.
