Peter Tatchell is a prominent British gay rights and paedophile rights activist, best known for his campaigns to out prominent British establishment figures in the 1980s and 1990s and his opposition to Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe's persecution of homosexuals. He is also known for his defence of the practise of paedophilia and his affiliation with the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE). He has proclaimed that "not all sex involving children is unwanted, abusive and harmful."[1][2]

Born in Melbourne in 1952, Tatchell was the only child of working-class, evangelical Christian parents, whose passionate belief gave him his first taste for missionary work. However, he declares himself to be an atheist.[3]
